Train services across parts of Lincolnshire are facing major disruption this afternoon following a fire at a domestic property on Walnutgarth in Sleaford, which backs directly onto the railway line.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue received the emergency call at 14:32 and immediately dispatched two fire crews from Sleaford to the scene. Firefighters are currently tackling the blaze using two hose reel jets and two sets of breathing apparatus. There are no reports of casualties at this time, and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Due to the fire’s close proximity to the railway, East Midlands Railway has been forced to halt all services through Sleaford Station in both directions. Routes affected include:

  • Nottingham – Grantham – Skegness
  • Peterborough – Lincoln – Doncaster

Network Rail engineers are also on site assessing the impact on the line and assisting emergency services. While some trains may be able to divert around the closure, passengers are advised to expect delays and cancellations throughout the afternoon.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway said: “Our services are currently unable to pass through Sleaford due to a fire adjacent to the track. We are working closely with Network Rail and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. Safety remains our top priority. We aim to resume normal service by 17:00, depending on progress at the scene.”

Passengers are advised to check travel information before setting off and to allow extra time for their journey. Updates will continue to be issued via the East Midlands Railway website and social media channels.
