With an Amber Weather Warning in force for extreme heat on Monday 30th June and Tuesday 1st July 2025, schools across Boston are issuing urgent updates to help keep students safe, cool, and comfortable during the expected heatwave.

The Met Office has forecast temperatures exceeding 34°C in some areas, prompting local primary and secondary schools to adjust uniform policies, encourage hydration, and revise activity schedules.

Secondary Schools

Boston Grammar School

Boston Grammar reminds students that blazers and ties are not required under current shirt sleeve order, which remains in place until the end of term.

“Hats, suncream, and plenty of water are advisable!”

Boston High School

The school remains open with key adjustments:

  • Students can wear PE kit
  • No blazers or jumpers required
  • Shirts/blouses can be untucked
  • Water fountains available throughout the site
  • Some PE lessons may be moved indoors

Haven High Academy

Haven High is allowing students to:

  • Wear PE shirts instead of regular uniform
  • Bring a water bottle from home and refill throughout the day
    The school will also:
  • Extend break time to 25 minutes
  • Encourage sun protection including hats and sunscreen
  • Ensure classrooms remain cool using fans and air conditioning

Giles Academy & Cowley Academy

Both schools have confirmed:

  • Students may attend in PE kit
  • No blazers or ties required
  • Staff may also dress appropriately for the heat

William Lovell Academy

Two options are permitted:

  • Full PE kit including black shorts and trainers
  • Regular uniform without blazer or tie; top button may be undone

“Please ensure sun cream is applied and a refillable bottle is sent with your child.”

Thomas Middlecott Academy

“Due to the temperatures forecast tomorrow, students are welcome to come in their PE kits – no blazers or ties.”

Primary Schools

Wrangle Primary Academy

The school remains open, advising:

  • Sun hats and sunscreen
  • Refillable water bottles

“We have the wellbeing of your children as our priority.”

Carlton Road Academy & Staniland Academy

Children are welcome to attend in PE kits.

Families are asked to ensure children:

  • Wear sun cream
  • Bring a sun hat
  • Bring a refillable water bottle

Breaks may be moved indoors if temperatures rise, and classrooms will be well-ventilated with fans in use.

Pioneer Academy

Similar measures are in place, with:

  • PE kits encouraged
  • Sun cream, hats, and refillable bottles recommended
  • Use of fans or air-conditioned rooms to keep classrooms comfortable

Park Academy

Parents are advised to:

  • Provide water bottles, sun hats, and sunscreen (named bottles if possible)
  • Note that students will remain shaded or indoors as much as possible

A special bushcraft day for Year 5 (Toucans and Orangutans) will be held in a shaded tree-covered area, with water and indoor breaks as needed.

Keeping Children Safe in the Sun

Schools across the region continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to adjust plans in line with any updates from Public Health England or local authorities.

Parents are urged to check their school’s latest communications and ensure children are well-prepared for the heat, especially with hydration and sun protection.
