Architects and surveyors YMD Boon have started work on the significant redevelopment of the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex in Boston.
Appointed by Pulse Design & Build Ltd, YMD Boon will deliver multidisciplinary services to transform and revitalise this important community facility.
The first stage of the project is now under way, and initial enabling works include the creation of a temporary access road, internal reconfigurations, and preparations for relocating the pool’s reception area.
This ambitious redevelopment will bring long-term improvements to support health, wellbeing and inclusive access to high-quality leisure provision for the people of Boston.
The leisure complex offers a range of swimming and fitness facilities and will undergo significant remodelling and extension. Key elements of the works include the demolition of the existing public changing and reception areas and the construction of a brand new two-storey extension.
This new addition will provide a welcoming foyer, reception and modern changing village on the ground floor with a gym, flexible accommodation and a viewing gallery located above.
Importantly, the two existing pools will be connected through the new extension, enhancing accessibility and operational flow.
The project will also transform the surrounding environment. The car park will be extended with controlled access points introduced, and the existing wall will be opened up to create vibrant new views into the pool areas.
This redevelopment forms part of Towns Deal Funding and a wider vision to strengthen community facilities in Boston, working in collaboration with Boston College and the new Mayflower Building opposite the leisure complex. The two facilities will be linked by a new public plaza, enhancing connectivity between leisure and education facilities and creating a dynamic new public realm for the town. The new plaza will be undertaken with the leisure centre improvements.
Shari Setayesh, a Director at YMD Boon, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Boston Borough Council in delivering the transformation of the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex.
“This project not only modernises vital community leisure facilities but also reinforces Boston’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents through health, wellbeing, and education.”
Work on the redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2026.
Boston Borough Council previously posted on their social media the following updates:
- From Friday 6 June, the main leisure pool will temporarily close to allow demolition of the current reception, changing rooms, and leisure pool roof. These works will pave the way for a brand-new front extension designed to improve your leisure experience.
- Swimming lessons will continue in the Training Pool, and a temporary reception will be in place at its entrance.
- The gym and spa remain open and fully accessible via the fitness entrance at the rear.
- The front car park will close, but parking will still be available at the rear and side via a newly created route.
