The cause of a dramatic vehicle fire that broke out on Tattershall Road yesterday has been confirmed as a mechanical fault which led to the ignition of oil, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has revealed.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 1pm on Wednesday after receiving reports of a car ablaze near Sluice Bridge. A nearby resident captured dramatic photos showing a Mercedes C220 fully engulfed in flames, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

Police and fire crews closed the road in both directions while firefighters tackled the blaze and ensured the scene was made safe. The vehicle was later recovered and the road reopened later in the afternoon.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “A crew from Boston attended the incident using 1 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reels, small tools and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish. The cause has been determined as a mechanical fault leading to an oil ignition.”

No injuries were reported, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
