An 11 year-old student from Boston has written a letter to local councillors asking for their consideration of investing in a pump track for avid cyclists to utilise.

Daniel Komar, wrote a letter to borough councillors asking for the creation of a local pump track for bikes that would provide a dedicated space for cyclists of all skill levels to practice and improve their skills in a safe, controlled environment. Pump tracks are designed to enhance balance, control, and technique, making them ideal for riders ranging from beginners to advanced.

Daniel’s letter said: “Dear local councillors,

“My name is Daniel I have been living in Boston all my life and I am proud to call it my home. Although I am 11 years old I would like you to hear my proposal and please take it seriously. I want to ask if you would be able to build a local pump track in Boston for bikes because, all of the skate parks etc are packed and very un safe and hard to ride in. One of my main concerns is safety, I saw my friend having to jump of his bike 2 times in 30 minutes so he does not crash into a young child. I and almost the whole biking community agree that it would be so helpful to have a pump track made for many many reasons including if its only bikers it would keep the number of people in skate parks lower and safer. I understand that this is not a cheep proposal so, I am willing to set up a fund raiser to help with the cost. I would also approach local businesses for sponsorship. Anyway, below are my main reasons on why the council should consider building a pump track.

“Creating a local pump track for bikes would be a fantastic addition to our community for several reasons. First, it would provide a dedicated space for cyclists of all skill levels to practice and improve their skills in a safe, controlled environment. Pump tracks are designed to enhance balance, control, and technique, making them ideal for riders ranging from beginners to advanced. Moreover, a local pump track would promote physical activity and outdoor recreation, offering a fun way for individuals and families to stay active while enjoying the fresh air. It could also serve as a social hub, bringing together bike enthusiasts and fostering a sense of community. Additionally, such a project could help reduce the number of cyclists riding in unsafe or inappropriate areas, like busy streets or parks, thus improving safety. Investing in a pump track would not only support local cyclists but also contribute to the overall well-being and vibrancy of the community.

“Below are some examples of the idea:

I really hope the council will consider this idea. It would mean a lot to so many of us who love biking and want a safe place to ride. Thank you so much for reading my letter and I am happy to answer any questions you may have or attend a meeting.
