A Boston man has been jailed after walking into a police station armed with a large knife and attempting to attack staff.
William Smith, 35, of Mayflower Road, entered Boston Police Station on 27 February 2024 wielding the weapon before trying to smash the protective glass separating the public from front-desk employees. Officers said he threatened staff behind the counter as well as a member of the public who was inside the station at the time.
Smith was swiftly detained and later charged with affray, criminal damage and possession of a knife.
He appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on 7 June 2024, where he was sentenced to 20 months in prison. He was also ordered to pay £187 in costs. The knife used during the incident was seized and destroyed.
Police described the event as a frightening ordeal for those present, praising the quick actions of officers who brought the situation under control without injury.
