A storm system named Met Office is set to bring a spell of very strong winds across parts of the UK this weekend, with potential disruption expected from Saturday evening into Easter Sunday morning.

Storm Dave, described as a rapidly deepening area of low pressure, is forecast to track northeastwards close to or across northwestern parts of the country before clearing into the North Sea by Sunday. While there remains some uncertainty around its exact path and intensity, forecasters warn that strong west to southwesterly winds are likely to develop overnight.

Peak gusts of 50–60mph are expected across many areas, with exposed locations potentially seeing winds of 60–70mph. As a result, some travel disruption is likely, including delays to road, rail, air and ferry services, with a chance of cancellations.

High-sided vehicles may experience significant delays on exposed routes and bridges, and there is a possibility that some roads could be closed as a precaution. There is also a slight risk of power cuts, which could impact other services such as mobile phone coverage.

Damage to buildings is possible, including tiles being blown from roofs, while coastal areas could see dangerous conditions. Large waves may throw debris onto seafronts and coastal roads, with a small risk of injury for those caught too close to the shoreline.

Residents are being urged to take precautions ahead of the storm. Securing loose outdoor items such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents and fencing is recommended to reduce the risk of damage or injury. People are also advised to check travel routes in advance and prepare for possible disruption.

Preparing for potential power outages is also encouraged, with simple steps such as having torches, spare batteries and portable phone chargers readily available.

Those visiting coastal areas are reminded to take extra care, particularly around cliffs and exposed seafronts. Even from a distance, strong waves can be dangerous and unpredictable. In an emergency, members of the public should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

At present, Storm Dave is not expected to have a significant impact on Lincolnshire. However, current forecasts suggest gusts could still exceed 40mph locally on Saturday afternoon, meaning blustery conditions are likely across the Boston area.

The Met Office continues to monitor the situation and advises the public to stay up to date with the latest forecasts, as conditions and warnings may change quickly.
