Works to improve the A17 between Bicker Bar and Wigtoft will start in April.
Cllr David East, executive member for highways, said: “Not only is this section of the A17 nearing the end of its serviceable life, but the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership has also flagged up Mill Lane junction as a potential safety risk.
“As a result, we’ll be improving safety and visibility at this junction by re-aligning the existing layout and introducing a right-turn lane for vehicles turning onto the B1181.
“This isn’t a simple resurfacing job. It’s a major road reconstruction that will see the current carriageway between Bicker Bar roundabout and Hipper Lane fully excavated and replaced with roughly 13,000 tonnes of new road surfacing. This will return the road back to its original condition, making it much smoother and safer to drive on moving forward.”
Cllr Paul Lock, county councillor for Boston Rural, said: “More and more potholes seem to be forming on this stretch of the A17, so I’m glad to see these roadworks will be happening now before it can get any worse. I’m also very pleased that the team will be improving visibility at the Mill Lane junction since it’s has become a safety concern in recent years.
“When finished, these works will be a huge benefit to everyone using the A17.”
