Anglian Water has confirmed that work on The Gride in Old Leake has progressed faster than expected, with the team now on track to finish by this Friday, 20 February, around a month earlier than originally planned.
The works form part of a £3.1 million investment to upgrade the village’s ageing water network, replacing old pipes that have been prone to leaks and bursts in recent years. The project is designed to improve reliability and help future-proof the local water supply for homes and businesses.
So far, engineers have installed more than a kilometre of brand-new water pipes beneath the village using modern construction techniques. Much of the work is being carried out using directional drilling, which allows new pipes to be installed underground with far less digging, helping to reduce disruption to roads, pavements and nearby properties while also lowering the project’s environmental impact.
Anglian Water says the new pipework will significantly reduce the risk of future leaks and bursts, meaning fewer emergency repairs and a more reliable water supply for residents in the years ahead.
With work on The Gride now nearing completion, construction teams will move on to the next phase of the project on Station Road, starting from 23 February, as the wider upgrade across Old Leake continues.
The company has thanked residents for their patience while the work has been taking place and says it will continue to do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum as the essential upgrade progresses through the village.
A spokesperson for Anglian Water said the early progress is a positive sign for the rest of the scheme and praised the community for bearing with the works while improvements are carried out.
