A major stretch of the A17 has been closed this afternoon as Lincolnshire Police continue to investigate a serious four-vehicle collision that happened last night.

The force has confirmed that the existing road closure at Heckington is being extended to cover the entire section of the A17 between Holdingham Roundabout at Sleaford and Bicker Bar Roundabout.

Police were called just after 9pm on Monday, 17 February, to reports of a collision involving a blue Volvo V50, a black Mercedes E Class, a silver Mitsubishi Shogun and a white Volkswagen Passat.

The collision is believed to have taken place on the A17 between Sleaford and East Heckington, outside Garwick Farm on Boston Road in Heckington.

A number of people involved in the incident sustained injuries, described by police as both minor and serious.

Officers have confirmed that the road is expected to remain closed for several hours while a full forensic investigation of the scene is carried out. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible and to seek alternative routes.

In an update issued at 2pm, Lincolnshire Police said that Highways will be placing a full road closure on the A17 from Holdingham Roundabout to Bicker Bar Roundabout from 3pm onwards, and that the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released under investigation. Enquiries remain ongoing.

Police are also appealing for witnesses and for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision, or the collision itself, to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Lincolnshire Police.
