The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for ice on Wednesday 28th January, in force from midnight through to 10am, with patchy ice likely to form on untreated surfaces and potentially cause some disruption across the area.
Clearing skies on Tuesday night are expected to allow temperatures to fall below freezing soon after midnight and into Wednesday morning. Following recent wet weather, this will increase the risk of icy patches developing on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The Met Office warns that some injuries are possible from slips and falls on icy surfaces, and that travel conditions could be affected in places where surfaces have not been treated.
Residents are being advised to take extra care when travelling, allow at least five extra minutes for journeys to avoid rushing, and where possible use main roads and pavements which are more likely to have been gritted. Cyclists are also encouraged to stick to treated routes.
Motorists are urged to check road conditions before setting off, while those using public transport should keep an eye on bus and train timetables and be prepared to adjust travel plans if needed.
The Met Office also advises people to stay up to date with the latest local forecast, as weather warnings can change as conditions develop.
