Pescod Square Shopping Centre in Boston has contributed £1,000 to the Mayor’s Charity Fund after hundreds of children visited Santa’s Grotto at Christmas.

The Worshipful the Mayor of Boston, Cllr Barrie Pierpoint, is grateful for this huge contribution which will support his five local causes at the end of his civic year.

The grotto at Pescod Square, which opened during the Boston Christmas Festival and every weekend in the run up to Christmas, welcomed just under 400 children from the area to meet Santa.

As well as £1,000 to the Mayor’s Charity Fund, Pescod Square has also donated £500 to Dementia UK.

The Mayor is fundraising for the following five local good causes:

  • Boston Foodbank – Providing essential food support and free lunches for children during school holidays.
  • Boston Men’s Shed – A welcoming space for men to connect, share skills, and support one another.
  • Centrepoint Outreach – Supporting vulnerable and homeless individuals across Boston.
  • Headway Lincolnshire – Offering specialist counselling and support for those affected by brain injuries.
  • Support Group for Adults with Autism – Creating community and resources for autistic adults.

Cllr Barrie Pierpoint said: “Thank you so much to all the team at Pescod Square for this very generous contribution to the Mayor’s Charity Fund.

“While making memories for children and their families through the grotto at Christmas, you have also helped people living in this borough who are supported by these five local causes.

“To have raised £1,000 and an additional £500 for Dementia UK is such a great achievement. Thank you for choosing the Mayor’s Charity Fund as one of the beneficiaries of Santa’s grotto.”

Lisa Fitzgerald, Centre Manager at Pescod Square, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have raised £1,500 through our Santa’s Grotto this year and to see so many families enjoying the experience in the heart of the town. It’s fantastic that the money will support both Dementia UK and the Worshipful Mayor’s chosen local charities, all of which do incredible work in our community.

“I would also like to extend a huge thank you to Metsa Wood, who kindly provided the grotto for the fifth year running. Their continued support helps us bring this magical experience to Boston each Christmas and enables us to give something back to those who need it most.”
