The Worshipful The Mayor of Boston’s charity fund has received a welcome boost following recent fundraising events and donations from the generous people of the Borough.
Cllr Barrie Pierpoint and his fundraising committee have now exceeded the halfway mark of their £10,000 fundraising target.
The Mayor is fundraising for the following five local good causes:
- Boston Foodbank – Providing essential food support and free lunches for children during school holidays.
- Boston Men’s Shed – A welcoming space for men to connect, share skills, and support one another.
- Centrepoint Outreach – Supporting vulnerable and homeless individuals across Boston.
- Headway Lincolnshire – Offering specialist counselling and support for those affected by brain injuries.
- Support Group for Adults with Autism – Creating community and resources for autistic adults.
All funds raised by the end of his civic year in May will be shared equally among the five charities.
The Mayor’s Fundraising Committee have been extremely pro-active and busy raising monies from a whole range of events including – Festive Afternoon Tea, Vegetarian Supper, Raffles, Bread and Caricature sales, Mayor’s Christmas reception event and many others.
Organisations and businesses which have held events for the Mayor’s causes so far include:
- £300 from a fundraising event held at Kia Drayton Motors at the opening of their new showroom,
- £1,000 from Santa’s Grotto at Pescod Square,
- £330 from a charity quiz organised by the White Hart Hotel,
- £465 from a Christmas Street collection in Boston,
- £600 from a Prize Draw organised by the owner and his customers from the Kings Arms, Horncastle Road, Boston. The top prize of a Christmas hamper was won by Shane and Jennie Sellers.
Patrick Melaugh, of the King’s Arms, said: “Every year, we have a prize draw at Christmas time, to raise funds for various charities.
“This year, I saw the Mayor’s flyer asking for help to raise funds for his nominated charities and wanted to get involved. I had the good fortune to be able to offer a homeless person one of our B&B rooms during the coldest weekend in December and wanted to do more to help, so was drawn by Centerpoint Outreach and Boston’s Men’s Shed.
“I thank the worshipful Mayor for his time and to our lovely customers and local businesses for their kind help in raising these funds.”
Cllr Barrie Pierpoint said: “I would like to say a very big thank you to all the many businesses, organisations, individuals and my fundraising committee all of whom have worked tirelessly to fundraise for the Mayor’s five chosen local good causes so far.
“It is a fantastic milestone to exceed the half-way point of our fundraising target and I can’t thank everyone enough for their kind donations and generosity.
“With a few more months to go until the end of my civic year in May, we have lots more fundraising events planned and with the support of the community, I know we can more than exceed the £10,000 target for these fantastic, local causes.
“Please do come along to as many of our fundraising events, you will be most welcome and have an enjoyable time. If you would like to organise an event to support the five causes, please contact me by phone 07720 406806 or email barrie.pierpoint@boston.gov.uk“
