A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the wider area of the South Forty Foot Drain, covering isolated properties and villages in low-lying areas east of the drain and its minor tributaries from Bourne to Boston.
Forecast high river levels throughout the evening of Thursday 15 January could lead to flooding in vulnerable locations. The alert warns that flooding is possible from this evening, with the most affected areas likely to be low-lying land and roads close to rivers and watercourses.
The Environment Agency has said that while river levels are expected to remain high, current forecasts indicate that flooding to homes and businesses is not likely, and therefore Flood Warnings are not expected to be issued at this stage.
Officials are continuing to closely monitor river levels and weather conditions, and residents in affected areas are being urged to remain vigilant.
Members of the public are advised to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water, and to steer clear of low-lying roads near rivers which may become flooded.
