Central Park in Boston has taken a significant step forward in becoming more accessible and inclusive, with the completion of the first phase of a major improvement project.

Boston Borough Council has confirmed that brand new wheelchair-accessible routes through the park’s nature space are now open, following collaborative work by council teams and partners across the town.

The improvements have been supported by funding from the Boston Partnership Fund and form part of a wider programme focused on listening to residents’ views and ensuring Central Park is welcoming, easy to navigate, and rich in natural interest for all visitors.

Alongside the new accessible pathways, the project will also deliver enhanced native planting to encourage a greater variety of wildlife, as well as upgraded signage and interpretation to help visitors explore and learn more about the park and its surroundings.

The council says the works are designed to improve access for people of all abilities while strengthening the park’s role as a green space for relaxation, education and biodiversity in the heart of the town. Further phases of the improvement scheme are expected to follow, continuing the transformation of Central Park into a more inclusive and vibrant community asset.
