A sinkhole that appeared overnight has forced the closure of a stretch of Tattershall Road in Boston, as Lincolnshire County Council works to make the area safe.

Emergency crews attended the scene last night but were unable to secure the affected section, leading to the closure being put in place for public safety. Highways teams returned to the site early this morning to carry out detailed inspections and assess the extent of the damage.

The closure currently runs between Rawsons Lane and Green Lane, with a signed diversion route operating. Access remains restricted to residents only.

Boston Borough Councillor Patsie Marson said: “The road has had to be closed while Lincolnshire County Council deal with the issue. The emergency team attended last night and need to make the area safe, so avoid that route if possible.”

Highways personnel are now working to identify which utilities run beneath the damaged area as investigations continue into the cause of the sinkhole. Motorists are urged to steer clear of the area where possible until further updates are provided.

Local resident, Emma Locke, shared this photo onto Facebook on Tuesday night.
