18:30 - Original Story

Heavy and persistent rain is expected to hit Lincolnshire from Friday as Storm Claudia moves across England, bringing the potential for flooding, travel disruption and power cuts.

The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for South Lincolnshire from 12pm on Friday, with rainfall expected to intensify through the afternoon and into the night. Meanwhile, Boston and the rest of the county remain under a Yellow warning from 6am Friday until 6am Saturday.

Storm Claudia, which was originally named by the Spanish Meteorological Service, is forecast to bring 40-60mm of rain widely across the region, with some areas seeing up to 80mm. The downpours are expected to be accompanied by strong easterly winds and even thunderstorms later on Friday afternoon and evening, making conditions particularly hazardous.

According to the Met Office, impacts could include fast-flowing or deep floodwater posing a danger to life, homes and businesses likely to flood, spray and flooding creating difficult driving conditions and road closures, communities being cut off by flooded roads, delays and cancellations to train and bus services, and possible power cuts and loss of other essential services.

Residents are being urged to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel, especially those who may be travelling into the amber warning areas further south. If travel is unavoidable, motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution and never attempt to drive through floodwater.

The public is also encouraged to prepare a flood kit, which should include insurance documents, a torch and spare batteries, a first aid kit, prescription medicines, food, water, warm clothing, and supplies for pets or family members.

Authorities are reminding people to check on vulnerable neighbours and relatives, particularly those living alone or with health conditions, who may need help accessing food, medication or other support.

If you or someone you know is in danger from flooding, call 999 immediately. For non-emergency health advice, contact NHS 111.

Residents are also advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and follow instructions from emergency services and local authorities as the storm develops.

With already saturated ground across parts of Lincolnshire, forecasters warn that flooding impacts could be significant — and the public should prepare for potential disruption throughout Friday and into the weekend.
