The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for rain, covering Boston and surrounding areas from 6am on Friday 15th November until 6am on Saturday 16th November, with forecasters warning of the potential for flooding and travel disruption.
Heavy and prolonged rainfall is expected to develop through Thursday night, becoming more persistent throughout Friday before easing into Saturday morning. Strong easterly winds will also accompany the downpours, making conditions particularly challenging at times.
Rainfall totals of 30 to 50mm are expected widely, with some areas potentially seeing 60 to 80mm, and even higher amounts over elevated ground. Following recent periods of wet weather, this could lead to surface water and river flooding in some places.
The Met Office warns that there is a small chance of flooding to homes and businesses, leading to potential property damage, along with disruptions to public transport, road closures, and difficult driving conditions due to spray and standing water. In more severe cases, some communities could become temporarily cut off by flooded roads.
Residents are also advised of a slight chance of power cuts and possible interruptions to other utility services.
The public is encouraged to take precautions by checking whether their property is at risk of flooding and preparing an emergency plan if necessary. Those travelling should monitor road and public transport updates and allow extra time for their journeys.
People are also reminded to have torches, batteries, and phone chargers ready in case of power outages, and to keep updated with the latest weather forecasts as conditions may change rapidly.
