“Absolutely everybody who comes into our country illegally should be detained and deported”, Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick MP told guests at Boston and Skegness Conservative Association’s Annual Dinner at the North Shore Hotel, Skegness.
He added: “If we have to leave the European Convention on Human Rights, so be it. There’s no defence of that.”
He went on to say that reducing migration will only work if the party puts in place a “deterrent” such as sending people to a third country like Rwanda.
Mr Jenrick said the Conservaive Party had to be clear about what it stood for. A future Conservative Government would need to put more money into people’s pockets, tackle migration, secure the country’s borders, make the streets safe and clean again and make sure the UK was respected in the world again.
More than 100 guests attended the dinner, Mr Jenrick making a particular effort to meet and talk to as many of them as possible and to answer questions.
Cllr James Cantwell, chairman of Boston and Skegness Conservative Association, said: “It was with great pride as Association chairman I welcomed Robert Jenrick to the North Shore Hotel.
“With an event attended by more than 100 people it was a wonderful evening of good food and interesting speeches. It is clear that the Conservative Party is not simply down and out and we look forward to fighting for our communities over the coming years.”
