Families in Boston will once again have the chance to access affordable school essentials as Pescod Square Shopping Centre confirms the return of its popular Pre-Loved School Uniform Pop-Up Shop at the end of July.
The eco-conscious initiative, run in partnership with Boston Youth Hub, operated by local charity Tonic Health, aims to support families through the rising cost of living while reducing waste by giving a second life to good-quality school clothing and equipment.
An appeal has now been launched for donations, with the team asking for unwanted school uniforms from any local school, as well as school bags, PE kits, plimsolls, and football boots. All items will be cleaned, sorted, and made available at the pop-up shop for families to browse and collect ahead of the new school year in September.
Lisa Fitzgerald, Centre Manager at Pescod Square Shopping Centre, said: “We’re really proud to be bringing back our Pre-Loved School Uniform Pop-Up Shop. Last year, it helped dozens of local families save money while also promoting sustainability by encouraging reuse. The cost of preparing children for the new school term can be a real worry for some, especially with uniform and equipment costs mounting up, so this is one small way we can help ease that burden locally.
We’d like to encourage everyone in the community to check their cupboards and wardrobes for any items they no longer need, whether that’s outgrown jumpers, shirts, trousers, or PE kit. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference to another family.”
Further details, including drop-off points for donations and confirmed opening dates for the pop-up shop, will be shared on Pescod Square’s website and social media channels in the coming days.
For now, anyone interested in supporting the appeal is encouraged to start gathering items to donate, ensuring they are clean and in good condition, ready to help another child feel prepared and confident as they head back to school.
