A local county councillor has launched a petition urging Anglian Water to take immediate and long-overdue action to fix ongoing water pressure problems that have plagued Wrangle and Old Leake residents for far too long.
Councillor Alistair Arundell, Reform UK councillor for Boston Coastal on Lincolnshire County Council, attended the Wrangle Parish Council meeting on Monday evening where he was left “extremely concerned” after hearing first-hand accounts from villagers about the poor water supply many have been enduring—some for months or even years.
“I was shocked to learn how widespread this problem is,” said Cllr Arundell. “Many households are experiencing such low water pressure that they’re unable to shower properly, fill kettles, or carry out everyday tasks like doing the washing up. In some cases, the flow from the taps is little more than a trickle.”
While occasional disruptions to water services might be expected in emergencies, residents have reported that these issues are not isolated incidents but part of a persistent, long-term problem that has gone unresolved. Numerous residents have raised concerns directly with Anglian Water, but say they have received little more than vague responses and temporary fixes.
“This is simply not good enough,” said Cllr Arundell. “Access to clean, running water is a basic necessity—not a luxury—and we cannot allow our rural communities to be left behind when it comes to essential services.”
To escalate the issue and bring greater public and political pressure to bear, Cllr Arundell has now launched a formal petition, calling on Anglian Water to:
- Investigate the root causes of the low water pressure in Wrangle and Old Leake
- Provide a detailed public explanation and timeline for resolving the issue
- Commit to long-term infrastructure improvements to prevent future problems
The petition is being circulated both in print and digitally, with residents encouraged to add their names and share their own experiences. Cllr Arundell is also appealing for volunteers to help distribute the petition and raise awareness in surrounding villages.
“This is a community-wide issue that deserves a community-wide response,” he said. “The more signatures we gather, the stronger our voice will be. Anglian Water needs to understand just how seriously this is affecting people’s daily lives.”
Residents who wish to sign the petition, assist in distribution, or share their experiences can contact Cllr Arundell directly via social media or email. A digital version of the petition will be going live in the coming days to allow even more people to show their support.
Cllr Arundell added: “This may be a small rural area, but our voices matter. By coming together and speaking up, we can demand better and ensure Wrangle and Old Leake are no longer forgotten when it comes to vital infrastructure and services.”
