A heart-warming show of community spirit has seen residents rally together to raise £645 for a disabled man after his specially adapted tricycle was stolen from outside his bungalow.

On the night of Friday 20th June, multiple bikes were taken from the Allington Gardens and Linden Way area, including one belonging to 60-year-old Mick, who relies on his three-wheeled trike as his only means of transport. Mick, who suffered a stroke and has limited mobility, uses the trike daily to get to the shops, tend to his allotment, and walk his retired guide dog.

Touched by the situation, 14-year-old local resident Austin Smith launched a GoFundMe campaign earlier this week with the aim of helping Mick replace his stolen trike.

The community responded with generosity and compassion, and in just a few days the fundraiser hit a total of £645.

The money raised not only paid for a brand-new trike but also covered a hi-vis jacket, an ultra-bright 1800-lumen bike light, a cool box for Mick’s food and drinks while he’s at the allotment, a heavy-duty bike lock to deter future thefts, and even £30 cash left over for Mick to spend however he likes.

Austin and Mick have both expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated.

In a joint statement, they said: “We’d like to say a massive heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated to help buy Mick a new trike after his was stolen. We have managed to raise a whopping grand total of £645! Mick cannot explain how thankful he is for everyone who helped out. Thank you so much everyone!”

The act of kindness has not only helped restore Mick’s independence but also highlighted the strength and compassion within the local community.

Police are continuing to investigate the thefts. Anyone with information is urged to contact Lincolnshire Police.
