Motorists are being urged to obey road closure signs following a serious collision between a car and a HGV on the A1121 at Boardsides, Wyberton Fen, on Thursday night.

Lincolnshire Police responded to the incident at 9.53pm (incident 488), with emergency services rushing to the scene. The full extent of injuries or damage has not yet been confirmed, but police have described the collision as “serious.”

As a result of the crash, significant disruption remains in place this morning (Friday), with a major clean-up operation ongoing. A large oil spill — around 50 metres in length — has left the road surface hazardous.

The A1121 is currently closed between the A17 at Swineshead Bridge and Hubberts Bridge crossroads.

In a statement, Lincolnshire Police issued a strong plea to road users:

“Please do not attempt to drive around the road closure signs. There is a significant risk to you and others if your tyres slip on the oil.”

Highways staff are on-site managing the clean-up and assessing when it will be safe to reopen the roads.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area, plan alternative routes, and follow local traffic updates for the latest information.
