A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of multiple offences in connection with a number of incidents in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Boston.
Officers had been called to reports that a man was using a hammer in an attempt to smash the windows of the Aldi store in Queen Street. When officers attempted to engage with the man, he made serious threats towards them.
A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “Since the incidents took place, officers have carried out extensive enquiries. A lot of this work may have been visible with officers on the streets, and a lot is work you don’t see. This has included lines of enquiry in the UK as well as Europe, and involved multiple teams at the police including investigators from CID, intelligence officers, our Tactic Support Team (TST) and Armed Response officers, police dogs and their handlers, the proactive team, and forensics staff. We also asked for help from our communities, and we are grateful for their support.
“We have today (Friday, 10 January) arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence, attempted arson with the intent to endanger life; affray, and criminal damage.”
He remains in police custody and will be questioned by detectives in due course. The investigation continues.
