A fire that broke out a disused town centre store is being treated as arson, police say.

The fire, which caused damage to the former Dunelm Fabrics store on Lawrence Lane, Boston was reported around 8pm last night (Wednesday 30th October)

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were called at 19.58 on 30 October to a quantity of waste and waste clothing on fire in a disused outbuilding on Lawrence Lane in Boston. There was fire damage to an external canopy and the ceiling of the outbuilding.

Crews from Leverton and Boston attended and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire as well as thermal imaging cameras and Holmatro cutting equipment to gain access to a further disused building and check for fire spread.

This incident was confirmed as being caused deliberately.”

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police added: “We received a call at 8.06pm on 30 October reporting a fire at a building in Lawrence Lane, Boston.

“We are treating this fire as arson and are investigating.”

The building has recently been acquired by Boston Borough Council as part of the proposed Rosegarth Square Regeneration Project. The Leader of the Council, Councillor Anne Dorrian said: “We are aware of the fire at the old B&M site last night and are grateful to the professional firefighters who worked diligently to extinguish the blaze.

Our primary concern is the safety of everyone in the vicinity, and we hope that anyone who was in the area is safe.

Further investigations continue now that the blaze is extinguished.”
