Jordan Thewlis’ second half header extended Boston United’s unbeaten run to eight matches following a hard-fought encounter in West Yorkshire on Monday evening.

The Pilgrims dominated for large spells of their visit to Bradford Park Avenue, played at the fourth time of asking, but fell behind to Will Longbottom’s 66th minute header.

United levelled less than 60 seconds later when Thewlis powered home his own header from a Joe Leesley cross.

Craig Elliott had opted to make three changes to his starting XI ahead of kick-off, with Thewlis among those coming in.

Leesley’s early free-kick was beaten aside by Dan Atkinson in the Avenue net, with the home keeper then performing heroics to keep out a looping Thewlis header.

United lost the services of Tom Platt in the 18th minute, with the influential midfielder hobbling off with a hamstring injury.

His replacement, Paul Green, should have opened the scoring when he met Jay Rollins’ driven cross from the right, but his tame effort was stopped by Atkinson, who in turn denied Jordan Burrow on the follow-up.

Pierce Bird produced a timely block after the break to deny Adam Nowakowski but the resultant Nicky Clee corner was powered home by the head of LONGBOTTOM to hand the hosts the lead.

United were undeterred though and Leesley’s subsequent cross from the left was thundered home by the rising THEWLIS.

Boston had further chances, with Luke Shiels heading wide from an Andi Thanoj free-kick and Atkinson denying Thewlis, but it was left to the division’s player of the month for December, Ross Fitzsimons, to made a brilliant 88th minute save, low down, to deny Longbottom and Bradford a second goal.
